I went to my first group today

My doctor has a once-monthly group for bandsters, and I went to the first one tonight. It was a pretty full house, with over a dozen people there. It was nice to meet fellow bandsters and hear how everybody has done with their bands so far.

I don't know if it was a normal meeting, as it started out with a couple questions (with doctors present) and then kinda turned into small clusters of people talking amongst themselves. It wasn't a bad experience for a first meeting, but hubby (who went with me) wondered if it's always like that, and how can you really find anything out that way.

I dunno, I thought it was nice. The more I go, the more I'll figure out how everything goes. And the more questions I'll have to ask. The fact that I'm just now in the liquid phase (until Friday, THANK GOD), I don't even know what I don't know to ask. lol

Anyway, that was my big venture for the day. I still say I would probably benefit from an OA-type group as well, so I will be looking for one.

  1. Sounds like a great time.
A lot of those " Support" group meetings docs have mix bandsters and bypass patients together and it does not go well. Sounds like your doc does well.
The good thing about being able to just talk to others if you can ask more experienced bandsters questions you might have along the way , and it is more personable, helpful to you to speak to someone face to face.

Sounds like a great step , leave hubby at home next time LOL

  2. Hehehe, yeah, hubby was kinda sucking the air outta the room. Nothing bad, just lots of talking, which he normally doesn't do.

I really did learn some stuff in the face-to-face talks anyway, no matter what hubby thought. And it was apparently a really full group, so maybe they do different things when there are less.

I don't recall if my doctor does bypass... he may, but this was all banders, thankfully.

  3. All that matters if that you liked it ! I think its even better there were all bandsters there !
    Congrats !

  4. I love the group meeting most of the time. Each time something new comes up. I love meeting the other bansters especially the ones who have lost bunches! It is inspirational to me!

  5. Hon, you ARE one of the ones who has lost bunches!!! And you are very inspirational.
